As far as classic comics from the past go, we currently live in rich, unique times indeed. Many of the stories included in this tome have actually been reprinted in hardback collections once ( in several instances, twice!) in the past year already. First, let's compare and contrast:
This book contains roughly 45 stories from the S/K comic "Black Magic". The recently released The Jack Kirby Omnibus Vol. 2 includes roughly 15 of these stories. In a nutshell, the reasoning is as follows: Joe Simon reached an agreement with DC comics in the mid-70s to not only create several new titles for DC ( Green Team, Prez), but also provide material for a reprint horror book. DCs "Black Magic" ran for about 9 issues, consisting Simon/Kirby reprints from the original "Black Magic" of the 50s.
Also contained in this volume are selected stories from the Simon/Kirby title "Strange World of Your Dreams", which was also reprinted in it's entirety by Craig Yoe (The Strange World of Your Dreams: Comics Meet Sigmund Freud and Salvador Dali) and publisher IDW. Three of these stories are also included in the aforementioned DC/Kirby collection, as Simon supplied stories from "Strange World..." for inclusion in the DC "Black Magic" title. With the publication of this book, these particular stories have been presented for a third time in the past year!
As a Kirby completest, I felt compelled to obtain all 3 books.
