BookishTemptations.comAbout the Author
Jodi Ellen Malpas was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, UK, where she lives with her family. Working for the family construction business fulltime and with the prospect of taking it over once her father retired, she tried to ignore the lingering idea of writing a novel until it became impossible. She finally found the time and courage to release her creative streak and in October 2012 self-published
This Man as an e-book. She took a chance on a story with some intense characters, notably Mr. Jesse Ward, the Lord of the Manor, and sparked incredible reactions from women all over the world. Two months later, Jodi made the decision to give up her day job to concentrate on her new and very unexpected career in writing.

**SPOILERS ABOUND**
Apparently, I'm a glutton for punishment. Me and this book/trilogy are not friends. Not at all. It's like a train wreck--I don't want to look, but can't stop myself.
Only five short days have gone by since Ava left Jesse. Her entire world has ended. She's depressed and having a meltdown, reminiscing about her epic love. You know, her month-long relationship with Jesse.
Of course, this being the second book, it's obvious their separation won't last long. Just like that, they're back together. Shocked? Yeah, neither am I.
Not much has changed. Jesse is still a domineering, overly possessive control freak...times infinity. He's clingy and overly dependent. He wants all of Ava's time and attention all day, every day. She's a possession, a toy that he refuses to share. Jesse is a psycho. Nothing about his behavior is sexy. It's scary.
I'm tired of him always correcting her language. She's a grown woman. Ava already has a father. She doesn't need another one. But, just like with everything else, Jesse has absolutely no regard for Ava's feelings about anything. He does want he wants, when he wants.
Oh, and not to worry. He's not an alcoholic.
Except he is.
An alcoholic is an alcoholic. No matter how often he drinks, he has an alcohol addiction problem. Supposedly, he doesn't 'need' it, but he can't stop once he starts. He drinks himself into a coma. That's a problem. Alcoholism does not go away. An alcoholic is an alcoholic for life.
Everyone in this book is in denial.
1: "'No rehab.' John states firmly. 'He's not an alcoholic in the classic sense of the word. He's not obsessed with alcohol, Ava. He drank to lighten his foul mood, to fill a gap. Once he starts, he can't stop.
I gave the first book 5 Stars. I'm British, so I loved that it was by a British Author and set in England. The book received some flack from American reviewers about all the Britishisms. Well it would appear the author took note and this second book has definitely lost its British feel and it's sparkle.
I loved the first book because it was so witty. I loved Ava's interactions with her friends Kate and Tom. Unfortunately, this second book is not as witty and we don't get as much of Kate and Tom.
The first book had a lot of sex. This second book is just one great big sex scene. There is far too much sex in it. I got bored reading the sex scenes. I would say the sex scenes in this book are far better than in the first book. I did enjoy the sex scene set in the gym. I have never read one quite like that before!
I didn't find Jesse sexy in the first book. In this book, he made my skin crawl. He is far too possessive to the fact that I started to feel uncomfortable when I was reading it. There was a review on here of the first book where someone likened it to domestic abuse and I defended the author (and even got accused of being the author!). I stick by that as I didn't feel like that with the first book but I'm afraid in this book, Jesse did come across that way. He didn't want Ava to work, he didn't want her going out with Kate (he had to attend their lunch date as well). He told her what to wear. She wasn't allowed to drink. He showed up everywhere..at her work appointments etc. His reaction to stuff was very over the top and he wants to control Ava. None of this sat well with me.
Now to Ava. In the first book I liked her but felt she was immature and naive. Omg, in this book she did my head in!
