The methodical layout of Cisco the books are just one of the features that makes studying for their exams a pleasure. The book starts with a table layout of the topics covered in the exam and the parts of the book where they can be found. Right from the beginning you know Chapters 4 through 16 contain the most content covered on the exam. The questions at the beginning of the chapters and at the end makes sure you are honing in on the information presented for study. The book has many features to assist you and keep you on track for success. The clarity with which the book explains Security and the way it seems you are just engaged in general conversation makes for an unintimidating learning experience even for a security novice.

It starts off like most books with the basic security concepts, risk analysis and the lifecycle of a secure network, and security policies and the importance of these fundamental aspects in the first four chapters. Then, it on to the core of the exam, starting out with protecting the network infrastructure fundamentals. The information detailing the Cisco Configuration Professional is helpful. It has a few diagrams of the application and a step-by-step guide to demonstrate the creation of the community, templates, user profile and audit features. At the end of each chapter there is a Command Reference to Check Your Memory section. This details the most important commands covered in each chapter. You are able to review what was used along with a description of each command. On the CD, there is "Memory Tables" section that tests your memory. Its an exercise for you to fill out the tables from memory. Cisco Press does a very good job in allowing you to keep a steady pace with what is being discussed and offers many ways on how to retain the information.

Then, they describe management traffic and how to make it more secure and the implementation of security measures to protect the management plane. The authors also describe the role of Cisco Secure ACS and the two primary protocols used with it, RADIUS and TACACS. They continue by reviewing VLANs and trunking fundamentals, spanning-tree fundamentals, and common Layer 2 threats and how to mitigate them. Next, the authors cover the Ipv6. Then, they discuss the design considerations for threat mitigation and containment; and, the hardware, software, and services used to implement a secure network. The authors also cover the benefits and fundamentals for access control lists, implementing Ipv4 ACLs a packet filters, and implementing Ipv6 ACLs as packet filters.
